Rosemary Joy Glidden was born on Nantucket Island. Her work reflects a deep connection with the natural world and a constant search for belonging. Working predominantly with oil paint on canvas, paper, or wood, Rosemary often immerses herself in the landscapes she portrays, responding directly to her surroundings. While her paintings initially present as serene expanses of color and shape, closer inspection reveals intricate surface treatments, with layers of paint meticulously applied, scraped, and manipulated to evoke a tactile sense of reality.
Rosemary earned a BFA in Fibers from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2015, where she developed her passion for color and pigment. She graduated with an MFA in Painting at the New York Studio School in 2023, where she was recognized with the Jane C. Carroll Scholarship for her exceptional talent. Her work has been supported by a residency at Vashon Artist Residency in March 2024.
